WHAT’S TO LOVE ABOUT TREASURE TROVE
Treasure Trove is one of the most asked about gated communities in Coconut Grove. Its’ grand entrance off of South Bayshore Drive across from Coral Reef Yacht Club is stunning and certainly grabs people’s attention. This beautiful property was once home to Chicagoan Ernest Cole. He purchased a tract of land that lead from today’s Tigertail Avenue down to Biscayne Bay. During the construction of his home, the remains of a ship, anchor chain, melted coins and metal were discovered. There were rumors that pirate’s gold was also found on the property. In response, Cole thought it was appropriate to name the estate Treasure Trove. Cole collected plants from around the world to landscape his estate, which was famous for its row of royal palms that flanked the entrance. The grounds also included a variety of sculptures he created, his heart-shaped swimming pool was just one of the property’s unique features.
The section of property between South Bayshore Drive and Biscayne Bay was given to Cole’s son Clifford who built Mira Mare, a Walter De Garmo designed villa. This home now sits on the property of Coral Reef Yacht Club.
In the 1990s Treasure Trove was divided up into several lots and 10 single-family homes were built. There is still a back entrance to the property on Tigertail Avenue.
Homes in Treasure Trove rarely become available for sale. For that reason, they get snapped up quickly when they hit the market.
